It's about 6 people who cover all sports for all levels across the country. This is where the problem is.

And for the billions of dollars they reap from Football Playoff deals and CBS March Madness they cant find $1M to pay the salaries of say 24 people to add to their group.

I don't think the NCAA sees any of the bowl money.  That's strictly BCS money, or other independent organizations, like the Yankees Pinstripe Bowl. They do, however, get a whopping sum from the NCAA tourney. Enough to hire more then six people.

But this is gross exaggeration.  It must be hundreds of employees, because there must be tens of thousands of athletes that need initial clearance every year.  Maybe they need more employees, I don't know.  But what it sounds like is they want to delve into the actual course work, including homework.  Now if they have it in writing that their policy is to check homework, then this is legit.  But otherwise, it is stupid and very unfair, and he needs a lawyer.   I had a Professor that did this in college before the first exam.  Must have been about nine homeworks.  Many people threw some of them away or lost them because she did not say she was collecting them.  A nice person with a PhD.  The Dept. Chair said she could not do this.  But in the NCAA's case, who saves their homework from high school after they have started college.  I think he needs a good lawyer, unless their is some stated policy that athletes should save their homework.

I never said anything about bowls. I was referring to the billion dollar tv deals.

If NCAA has 6 investigators I simply picked a round number and divided by a salary of 45k not really knowing what typical salaries are in Indianapolis. Going from 6 to 30 is more than enough of an increase.

The NCAA sees money from BCS playoff deals?  I didn't know that.

It now seems to be the consensus on this board that he won't be cleared.  I'm still hopeful that he will be cleared.  Am I misreading?  Are people being unduly pessimistic.  One shouldn't have to produce homework assignments.

So he can't play this year and only has 3 years of eligibility beyond this year. Rat job by the NCAA.

The NCAA is a disgrace. Guarantee you they would have no problem if this kid was going to Kansas, UNC, KY etc. Really truly believe they are selective with this stuff and don't treat kids equally based on circumstances.

At the end of this day, none of us know if this was the proper decision by the NCAA because we don't know his full story and havent seen his transcript.  If he didnt meet the core course/GPA/standardized test standards, then he doesnt qualify.

What is really F'ed up is that in order for him to legally pursue this matter, he and his family must pay for a lawyer out of their own pocket. School should be allowed to compensate their players and they would definitely pick up the tab on this if they were.

Which is why I said earlier in this thread that it amazes me more players don't attempt to pursue other options after high school. 4 and 5 star recruits can play overseas after high school, get paid while there and then enter the draft. Jennings and Mudiay wound up having to do that and it didn't end badly for them. Not sure why this hasn't caught on yet, but if the NCAA continues this crap, it will sooner rather than later

It's the NCAA or it's the St.John's athletic department. Either the NCAA is playing favorites, or St.John's once again wasn't paying enough attention to what a recruit needed to do to become eligible. Mullin has already threatened to "go to Indianapolis". Again, that is the wrong move. Don't talk about what you might do. Get on a plane and go, and tell us about it afterwards. If you are so sure that he's done everything he needed to do, back it up with actions. We've had enough talk.

For 5 star recruits this is particularly true. Diallo could have gone overseas, gotten paid and get drafted next year. That said, because it is Kansas, he will probably be cleared.  Who's paying for his Lawyer?
