Sampson has a slighter build so he loses his balance when he faces contact going up to the rim and for rebounds. This did not happen to Harkless. Listen I thought Harkless was great and if he stayed a couple years would have went down as one of our best.
I think Sampson is good but def needs more work.

JaKarr gets ball ripped out of his hands. That never happened to Moe. Moe exploded to the hoop going baseline off one dribble. Really was a reason besides potential that Moe went 15. Jakarta gets flustered when doubled. He not ready at all. Please don't think I don't like JS. I do but he is green.

Without a doubt Rookie of the year in the BE. However does anyone get the sense that he could take over and carry us like Harkless did? In my opinion he def needs another year. If his people assure him he will be a first round draft pick, then you can't blame the kid, but I just do not see it.  I think another year, putting on some muscle and maybe extend his range out a couple feet. Maybe I am wrong, but I just don't see him as a first round pick right now.

harkless was inconsistant and "carried" us to a losing record.  he was drafted on the basis of his potential...and it's paying off for him and for orlando.

sampson is a sleeper who could go in the first round once the nba sites realize who he his.  i'd LOVE him to say...but who knows?

Doron Lamb was a second round pick (# 42) and signed a 4 million dollar contract, three million guaranteed. Three million is life changing money and certainly more than enough to hire a trainer and a shooting coach and whatever else who can work you out 10 hours a day 7 days a week if you like, which is likely to lead to more success in basketball than working out however many days the NCAA says you can with Rico Hines. Lamb's in the D league now. What's more fun do you think? Having 4 million dollars and being in the D league or having no million dollars and taking Economics 101 in Queens.

I find it unlikely that this is a decision that comes down to what will make him a better BB player. He's going to get better one way or the other. What it comes down to is his personal life. Does his family need money. Does he have a girl friend. Does he like college. And so on. Stuff that none of us are privy to. This thread is looking through the wrong end of the binoculars.

As far as I can see Sampson needs a little bulk and a three point shot and maybe a little better handle. Otherwise he doesn't have too many flaws and has a pretty high basketball IQ. Other than coming back to improve his standing in the draft he has little reason to return. My memory isn't what it was but my impression is he's a more mature player as a freshman than was Malik Sealy. If he were to come back its not a big jump from where he is to 20 and 10. Those are numbers that'd set him up for life. OTOH if he's really good friends with LeBron maybe LeBron tells the Heat to draft him 42nd and give him a guaranteed 4 million and season him on the bench for a year or two. Which would also set him up for life.

Is he better than Sealy as a Soph?  Because while he is still a freshman by all technical means he is in reality a sophomore in terms of age due to his prep year.

Wasn't around to see Sealy in college therefore I pose the question.

I thought Harkless game was more NBA ready. He was smoother and a better athlete. Sampson is a good athlete, I just thought Harkless was at another level.

You can't be serious.  Sampson is one of the best athletes you'll ever see.  Moe had a much stronger build and was clearly much more skilled and smoothe, but Sampson is light years ahead in terms of athleticism.

Sampson has no perimeter game right now.  That coupled with his small frame makes hims useless in the NBA for two years.

No.

Malik started to blow up when he was a soph.

Marillac, Sampson scores 75% of his points on 18 foot jumpers. Not sure how that translates to the pros, but he has a better jumper than Harkless had. When you combine evrything, yes Harkless is a better athlete which is why he was drafted in the 1st round and Sampson wont be.

I'll defer to the Gaucho upstream because I couldn't make the distinction. Sealy was one of the best half dozen in my lifetime. I remember he got very good very fast. Sampson is already very good. If he were to improve every year for 4 years as did Sealy there's no telling what sort of numbers he'd put up.

But I think Karr is havin a better frosh season than Malik.

Then again Malik played on a frontline wit a First Round (Jay) and a Second (Rob).

Thanks.  My point was and also what many have to realize is Karr is really a soph by age and that needs to be accounted for when everyone talks about him leaving early.

Cook, Malik Sealy and Barkley were better than Lopez as freshman. Barkley had almost nothing to learn. He was on from day one.

Plumlee is a senior and everytime we get a good player they leave after one?  Life is so unfair.

Darryl Hill, David Russell.

I was 6 I think when Russell was a frosh. Started following his Junior year. Russell is in my top 7 favorite Johnnies though. I forgot about Hill.  I would put him at 9 and bump Werdann

I thought Malik and Artest made the most improvement from a frosh to a soph of any player in my time.

Ferret face has a pipeline to Mrs Plumlee's womb. There are another couple waiting to play next year.

Most impressive STJ frosh I ever seen and that include the great one.
