This will be ugly. Mussini won't be able to get anything going offensively for himself or the team with Dunn on him. Also have no idea who on the team is going to stop Dunn Bullock or Bentil

Yeah it's gonna be ugly.  They're experienced and talented.  We are thin, young and have no PG.  it will be a season before we start competing.

Balamou gonna have to be the one guarding Dunn.  He's the only guy athletic enough to attempt it.

This is why you incorporate some zone.  To, at least, slow 'em down.  It's gonna get ugly, regardless, but our cement shoes team is gonna get sandblasted off the bounce in man.

I don't disagree, but the truth is that you can't really play good zones without learning to play good man defense.  With so many freshmen, and Mullin wanting to develop as a primarily man defense team, I think it's mainly about putting our guys through the paces.  We aren't gonna see the wins this season, but our man defense won't get better just by throwing zones in there.  Whether this season or the next, all our young guys need to learn to man-up on defense.  Only way to do so is to play it.  Lots of coaches out there that don't use zones just to manufacture wins.  Even if we do go zone, we won't win.  Because of this and where we are this season, I'm all in favor of our guys learning how to play man defense.

That's true to some extent.  But, you can play good zone by knowing man principles.  That doesn't mean you're a good man defender.   It just means you're familiar with the fundamentals and concept of playing man.

As, I've mentioned on the other board....  I don't mind us occasionally playing man.  But, I don't like us exclusively playing man.  We could also be in a different place a season from now, as far as talent, and could still be getting smoked in man.  I know where we stand this season, but you still want to put your team in the best-possible scenario to win games.

I like how we continue to hedge Dunn.  Not allowing him to attack the basket and settle for jumpers at this point.

LOL

Probably, our best defender, as well.  I do like how we're defending Dunn, so far, as I recently stated.

So far so good but Ali's 3 miss looked like he's shooting for rim at Carnesecca Arena.

Johnsons streaky with his pull up jumpers.  He gets one in so he keeps going for them no matter what.

If only game was over now.

Two things that make me crazy about this team that have nothing to do with skill. Poor shot selection and lazy close outs

They have to do with youth and inexperience.... Both of which we have a plethora of as well.

Likewise.

By the way, this is where we miss a healthy Williams.  Providence is laying off Yakwe.  Williams is capable of hitting that shot.  Yakwe isn't to the point where he can consistently hit from 12-15 feet.

Providence 10-0 run....and so it begins.

Yakwe scares me whenever he attempts to shoot.

Division 1 basketball players, even freshmen, should know that a long contested 2 early in the shot clock is not optimal basketball. One of the major violators of this is our senior Durand Johnson.

A lot of issues on the close-outs is that guys like Alibegovic are slow.  Durand is lazy with it but hard to change his habits at this point.  It still all comes down to talent and experience.  If we had another athletic big up front like Tarik Owens, and a true pg like Lovett, we'd be different all together.  It won't happen this season.  We have some games where we put things together better than others.  Right now we are playing "fair" and only down a few.  Need to cut on mistakes.
