No Duke? What the heck.  When was the last time we didn't play Duke?
I'm thinking that the two "in season" out of conference games (UCLA & Duke) have not been inked yet, but will be added on later.  Any one can confirm this?

That is pretty likely. This can't be our non conference schedule. It's shameful. Almost all patsies. NJIT? What for?

I think this is it.  Would think they would put a disclaimer in there that other games could be added.  Della is good for the magic number of games you can have, not sure what that is.  If we are up to that number than nothing will be added.

but then that means we play ZERO out of conference games once we hit big east play --- when was the last time that ever happened.... I gotta believe that Duke game is getting penciled in

Thanks. What as become of the Holiday festival-again only one game and even earlier-used to be between Christmas and New Years. If you count 18 BE games there are 12 others so Charleston T must be an exempt T as 3 games count as one allowing us to sch 30 instead of 28 game limit leaving no room for Duke or Ucla so this looks like it is it. Like the fact that there are so many home games and 2 exh instead of one and a closed scrimmage that we have done in the past.

“@STJ_Basketball: Duke series is on hiatus, not discontinued. The ACC is going from 16 to 18 conference games this year. Duke needed non-conf relief. #stjbb”

Its more common for teams not to break away from conference play once it starts.  And if they do its usually 1 game.  And often its a non conference layup game not  a battle of giants.

Not having Duke hurts.

If they get BOTH Murray St and Baylor in Charleston that will help SOS.

I will throw Colorado in there too.  Those are the three best teams we would want to see with our 2nd and 3rd games down there.

It will be interesting to see who else Duke drops; now that we are a b-ball team again; they are quick to weasel out.  This late change makes it difficult to book a "big" team and you have to see who needs the money guarantee with no return game.

While there are some cupcakes on the schedule; it might be good to boost confidence, experiment with pairings and give everyone some time.  I don't consider the St Francis game a bad one given the historically significant rivalry between the schools and the location as St John's returns to its roots in Brooklyn.

if you look at last season's schedule, it was similar with Wm. & Mary, UMBC and Texas Pan Am.

What is good is there are no out of conference games during January/February right now.  This is something Boeheim does at Accuse.  Last year the Duke/UCLA games, while good for exposure, wore the team down and that hurts with our in conference record.

Remember we played Lehigh last year, and look what they did later in the year.  What looks like something now might be totally different come March.

Because you have your SOS/RPI calculator handy? :)

So your saying 24-6 we NEED to get in with?  23-7 won't do it for you?

My only real problem w this schedule is that we have no MSG presence until this singular game Holiday Festival. And even then, it seems odd to play Fordham. Why bother? What could create less buzz? Why not at least invite another A10 team and a CAA team as well?

Holiday Festival is only 1 day again.  Due to the late start for Knicks and Rangers at home they don't have the back to back dates to spare.  Yeah MSG games will have no premier OOC game.

I think were just used to having a premier game at MSG every year.  We don't this year.  This isn't the hard crazy schedules we're used to.  But its not cupcake city as some might be overreacting to think.

I like this schedule.  I'm not particularly worried about our strength of schedule.   I want these guys to get comfortable.   And after that first week - baptism by fire coach would say-  they can settle down and work out whatever weaknesses the staff sees.

And it's not that common to play out of conference games in January and February.   I think we've been spoiled with Duke and UCLA lately.   And let's not forget, for years we played Duke in December.

Based on this, I think we could be 11-3 going into conference play.  And that's before Branch starts playing.   I'd sign up for that right now.

Would probably sign up for that.  Depends on who the losses were.  I might be bullish and say 12-2.
