BE Media Contract

How much more money will Maryland make in the Big Ten? 

Why not just keep Plank's money, add it to their annual ESPN/ACC jackpot, and stay in their conference on the Atlantic Coast?

Does any Maryland fan look forward to leaving their rivalries and playing in a midwest league? 

Not sure if the daily news was just fanning the fire but they were talking about St. John's and Georgetown going to the ACC and Maryland and Rutgers going. To the BIG10.

Rubin is usually out of the loop.  Makes you think someone handed him this lead b/c of real developments or possibly a school hoping to have name thrown into the discussion.

If we had the chance I would take it.

You know with all the talk of deflections the past year or so, and with the actual deflections, if we have a chance to go to the ACC, we should take it.  The BE will never be the same BB-wise.  I would clearly put the best interests of St. John's ahead of the BE.  We are a BB school.  We have always been proud to be in one of the best BB conferences in the country these past years, if when we stunk the place out.

The more non-eastern schools the BE goes after to save its FB needs, the worse our basketball position is.

I would rather have us continue to play Syracuse and Pitt, along with eastern powerhouses like Duke and NC, than midwestern and western schools.  I think it is only a matter of time before UConn joins the ACC. 

Times change! So while I would have preferred us to stay with the BE teams of last year, that will not happen.  If offered the ACC, Gtwn and St. John's should take the opportunity. We need to change with the times!  I do not fully like it, but I can understand it.

Agreed.  But Big East will still survive as a bball league and IMO a good one.

Unfortunately, you are correct.

It's not my choice either, but would still be a real good league.  Don't really think its our choice.  Should the ACC come calling,  we should and probably would take it, but I'm not holding my breath for that kind of offer.

Is it still possible or even likely that an all basketball can be created? Right the ACC is stuffed with basketball teams so why would they add two more? If We still have the Garden and now the ACC is out of the DC area. Even if UCONN goes to the ACC they still won't be able to bring NYC. The important this for St. John's is to keep getting better and be relevant in the city.

These 18-20 team leagues are ridiculous.  I'm just gonna start watching EPL Soccer and call it a day.

Taxes support these huge not for profit state schools.  Now that they have football programs making so much profit perhaps congress should examine how the money can be returned to taxpayers or reduce tuitions. 

Besides going to overpaid coaches pockets where else does all this cash go?

Agreed, states are going broke but state tuitions and coaches salaries are sky rocketing. I am a little surprised that state schools are not complaining more because these state school have unlimited resources to pretty much do whatever they want.

I hate when Congress gets involved with professional sports.  But as for college athletics it wouldn't be a bad idea in my mind.

when is this BE Commish going to get a contract done? Or at least start getting some publicity that a deal is in works

If you're a tv exec would you pay money for the big east right now?   knowing it could collapse tomorrow?
