I'd love to have temple and Uconn join. They just need to drop their shitty football teams and we'll gladly welcome them.
Memphis too.
But none of them are going to do that. They've invested too much $$ in football.
It's such a complicated mess with the fight for supremacy struggles these days between the Pac 12, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, and ACC all vying for the 4 BCS spots. The Big East Football would likely still be 6th when they pluck anything of value from Conf USA and Mtn West.
You could easily ask UCONN, Cincinnati, Temple, South Florida, and Memphis to go independent in football but then they are basically left out of the BCS mix. That won't happen but they all want to eventually go to one of the big five which likely can only happen for UCONN and Cincinnati in my opinion with the exception of perhaps Temple.
It's better for the basketball schools not to get into any of these arrangements, keep it clean and go non football schools only.
You want a conference that will not have the threat of defections. Basketball schools will try to improve themselves to get in. This can grow in the future to maximize more TV dollars with divisions to ensure the original rivalries.
