South Dakota is the only state w a declining population. This doesn't bode well for ticket sales.

I like the game a lot. Going against one of the best, in my opinion top five, coaching minds in the game. I will like it better if its not our first game of the year. I'd rather play a local first.

Big time test for us.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

At least we have European tour in the summer.  If we are running effectively, they will have a tough time because we also have size and shotblocking now.

I like the opponent too. Wisconsin is a legit Big Ten contender every year. I think it's great to test our level of readiness against a strong team from a conference that's a level up from ours. I wonder if UofW fans consider this an opening game against a team from a mid major conference?

The Eurpean tour will be great for us but its a totally different world when the games start to count. I like to get the first one out of the way before playing a big team, on the road nonetheless. This game is a great opportunity.

I'm sure the University will arrange a trip to the game for a few thousand dollars.
I can't even make fun of South Dakota. It's invisible.

I'm expecting the European tour to get us at least slightly more prepared than the average team playing team-ball entering the season.  Usually we are starting from scratch at midnight madness.  Instead, we will have real practices this summer and play 4-6 games against European teams.  We will also have an earlier midnight madness which will leave very little gap where we are not playing basketball.  I think the European tour can be exceedingly important, considering that European teams play a ton like Wisconsin does, and it allows us time to phase in Jordan, Sanchez, rotations as well as offenses and defenses.

The first "real" game will be Wisconsin of course, but we will likely have played about 8 games since August, even if exhibitions which should help at least a little bit.  Anybody know what Wisconsin returns, talent-wise?

Per Wisconsin press release:

“The relationship Coach Ryan has with Coach (Steve) Lavin also made it a more appealing game,” Gard added. “They have had a long-standing relationship and with the game featuring Midwest and East Coast programs, it brings some flavor to the schedule"

I'm assuming it goes back to Purdue days and Keady.  Either way, I love the matchup.

I'd rather just play a true road game and play at Wisconsin

Very early scouting report....
From Andy Katz:
Wisconsin Badgers (My pick -- No. 25; Jason's -- unranked): If there is anything to be learned in covering and watching a Bo Ryan-coached team, it's that the Badgers will consistently finish in the top four or five in the Big Ten and be in the NCAA tournament. UW does lose three critical seniors in Ryan Evans, Mike Bruesewitz and Jared Berggren, but when has losing players ever been a crippling proposition for Ryan? There is still plenty Ryan has to work with to keep Wisconsin in the top 25, with Traevon Jackson, Sam Dekker and Ben Brust as primary scorers. Ryan will maximize Frank Kaminsky's potential inside, and there is a legit buzz about incoming power forward Nigel Hayes."

I got a feeling outside of Cuse there might not be an OOC marquee matchup at MSG

It's possible.  It might have to wait until the year after.  Scheduling is not easy considering the conference shakeups.  It's not for any negative reason though.  Everybody wants to play at MSG.  I just think the schedule might not allow it at this point.  Personally, I don't care.  Let's win our OOC games this season and work for scheduling a better MSG slate for  14/15'...

P.S. I'm still pissed Duke put our series on hiatus.  Would LOVE to play Duke this season.
