A lot of folks think the Ben Howland firing at UCLA has greatly increased our chances.   Kid hand NYC, & LA  and....Temple in his final 3.   If UCLA's out of it, St. Johns is the remaining "Big Time" among his choices.   The impression I get from the kid (quotes, social media) is that "NBA Future" is incredibly important to him.   I'm hoping it's not lost on him that he LAST successful NBA guard from Temple was Guy Rodgers back in 1959   - unless you count the 6 pt a game disappointment that was Mark Macon as "successful".   To me, it seemed THAT was the common denominator between the two "non-hometow" schools in his final 3 - Steve Lavin sending 6 guards to the NBA in 9 years as a head coach, and Ben Howland sending  9 in 14 years.   UCLA itself may still be in play as a launching ground for NBA guards over an A10 school, regardless of the coach.  They've sent more guards to the NBA than every A10 school COMBINED (32).  But I think it's more likely it's now between SJU and Temple....By the way, tho not so many recently, St. Johns has sent 24 guards to the NBA over the years (14 were pre-1960).   

I'm too young to remember him in college, but what about Eddie Jones? Was he not a guard at Temple?

That's a fair assessment, paultzman.  God knows Temple has been providing him with enough swag to fill a small sporting goods store.  Would be awesome to see him put on a STJ hat on national TV.  Fingers crossed!   

Another tweet says "did my thing in Philly, that's what people never gonna forget" or something to that effect. 

Makes me believe he's leaving Philly.

Rumors floating around that Rutgers going to make a strong run at Dunphy...doubt he goes but does that impact this at all? Gotta give this credit, hes getting a tight lip

Actually there were a couple of new hats this year that are signing day worthy.  Big improvement over the highway rest stop hat that DLo used for his ESPNU announcement.

I'm just assuming  Temple and if he pops for us fantastic. If it is between us and Temple gotta think he knows there are more NBA connections right now in the league with St John's ties. Lavin has sent numerous players to the league, Rico has pro players on campus almost daily over the summer, Ron Ron, Moe and Dunlap, Darrick was involved in front office and played in league, Mullin was a GM and I'm sure still has contacts and Mark Jackson is doing well out in Golden State ( I know he doesn't bleed St J's) but looking at that i gotta say that is way more than Temple's connections. UCLA on the other hand is a different story.
